Motor Accident Notification

As the seasons change, the conditions on the highways change as well.

Autumn brings fallen leaves, damp and cold weather, lower sun, frosts and longer periods of darkness.

All of this can impact your driving performance and contribute to an increase in road traffic collisions.

Following any collision, no matter how minor, it's essential that you report the incident to your company, broker or insurer quickly, especially if a third party is involved.

Early reporting can minimise the cost of any claim, reduce the opportunity for fraud, and since the introduction of Whiplash Reforms in England and Wales, helps your insurer defend your claim within the liability decision period of 30 working days.

To improve accident notification.

  • Report all motor incidents as soon as possible to your broker or insurer, ideally within one hour of the collision if safe to do so, or within 24 hours – however minor they may seem.
  • Always take down the details of any third party involved even if the third party offer to share their details when back at home or the office.
  • Get as much information as possible including photos, telematics data, in-vehicle camera footage, CCTV and any witness details – this could help if a fraudulent claim is made against you or is disputed.
